Haryana Government Jobs — How Recruitment Here Actually Works
Haryana does not work like most states. Before you can apply for almost any Group C or Group D post here, you must already hold a valid CET score. There is no applying first and qualifying later.
That single rule reorders everything. If you are starting out in Haryana recruitment, the CET is the thing to understand before you look at a single vacancy.
Who recruits what
| Body | Handles | Portal |
|---|---|---|
| HSSC — Haryana Staff Selection Commission | Group C and Group D posts, Police Constable, clerical, technical and field roles. Runs the CET. | hssc.gov.in |
| HPSC — Haryana Public Service Commission | Class I and Class II posts — Haryana Civil Services, DSP, Excise and Taxation Officer, Assistant Engineer, PGT, medical and specialist roles. | hpsc.gov.in |
| Haryana Police | Departmental information; constable recruitment runs through HSSC. | haryanapolice.gov.in |
Candidates routinely apply on the wrong portal. The simple test: if the post is Group C or D, it is HSSC. If it is a gazetted officer post, it is HPSC.
The CET, and why it changes your planning
The Common Eligibility Test is a qualifying gate, not a recruitment in itself. You sit it once, it gives you a score, and that score is what lets you apply for Group C and Group D advertisements as they appear.
Three consequences most candidates work out too late:
- Missing a CET cycle costs you every Group C vacancy until the next one. Not one recruitment — all of them.
- Your CET score follows you. A strong score improves your position across multiple advertisements, so the effort is amortised rather than spent once.
- Vacancy notifications come after the CET, often months later. Waiting for a vacancy you like before registering for CET is the wrong order and it is the commonest mistake.
One Time Registration comes before everything. Haryana runs an OTR system, and you cannot apply for CET or for any HSSC advertisement without completing it first. It is a separate process from the application itself. Do it now rather than on a deadline day, when the portal is under load.
What the CET paper looks like
The syllabus carries general awareness, reasoning, maths, science, English and Hindi — and, distinctively, around a quarter of the weight sits on Haryana-specific material: the state's history, current affairs, literature, geography, environment and culture.
That quarter is where outside candidates lose ground and local candidates gain it. It is also the most learnable part of the paper, because the syllabus is finite and the material does not change much between cycles. If you are preparing for CET, start there rather than with the general sections you are already revising for other exams.
Where the cycles currently stand
| Cycle | Status |
|---|---|
| CET Group C, Advt 01/2025 | Exam held 26 and 27 July 2025. Detailed result and scorecard declared 16 April 2026. |
| CET 2026 registration | Notification 27 May 2026; registration ran to 12 June, fee to 14 June. |
| CET 2026 exam and result | Not announced in the sources we checked. Watch hssc.gov.in. |
| HSSC Group D | Result released. |
| HSSC Forester and Forest Guard | Revised result released. |
| HPSC Agriculture Development Officer | Result-II released 5 October 2026. |
Honest position as of 7 October 2026: we did not find a major Haryana application window open right now. The large 2026 cycles — HSSC CET Group C Phase II, the Prison Department advertisement, HPSC Civil Services, HPSC PGT Computer Science — all closed earlier in the year. Haryana recruitment runs in bursts, and the current phase is results and next stages rather than fresh applications. We would rather say that than pad this page with closed vacancies.
The scale, for context
Haryana's 2026 cycles were substantial. HSSC advertised roughly 4,227 Group C posts under the CET Phase II advertisement, a separate 3,112-post Group C mains advertisement, 1,238 Prison Department posts including Assistant Superintendent Jail and Warder, around 5,500 Police Constable posts, and 779 Forest Guard posts.
On the HPSC side, 1,672 PGT Computer Science posts, 102 Haryana Civil Services and allied posts, 162 Veterinary Surgeon, and smaller Assistant Engineer and Scientific Officer advertisements.
That is a state recruiting at genuine volume. The planning implication: hold a valid CET score, because when these advertisements land the windows are often short — the Prison Department advertisement opened on 24 June and closed on 30 June.
What to do if you are targeting Haryana
- Complete OTR at the Haryana registration portal if you have not. Nothing works without it.
- Hold a valid CET score for Group C and D ambitions. Register in every cycle you are eligible for.
- Prepare the Haryana-specific quarter of the CET syllabus properly. It is the highest-return section.
- Check hssc.gov.in and hpsc.gov.in directly, weekly. Haryana advertisements have short windows and aggregator sites pick them up inconsistently.
- Keep your domicile and category certificates current in the state-prescribed format. See the document checklist.
Anganwadi recruitment — the state's largest female-only intake
Separate from HSSC and HPSC, the Women and Child Development Department recruits Anganwadi Workers and Helpers directly, on merit from school marks with no written exam and no fee. The July 2026 drive covered 7,183 posts — see Haryana Anganwadi vacancy for the full breakdown, document list and what to prepare before the next window.
Meanwhile, what is open nationally
While Haryana is between application cycles, several central and other-state recruitments are open to Haryana candidates with no domicile restriction:
- RRB NTPC — 3,548 graduate and 1,688 undergraduate posts. The graduate window is open and closes 6 November; the undergraduate window opens 15 October.
- BPSC TRE 4.0 — 32,388 teacher posts, open until late October.
- RRB Paramedical — 590 posts, closing 14 October.
- Everything currently open, with official portal links for each.

Questions
Do I need CET for every Haryana government job?
For Group C and Group D posts, yes — a valid CET score is the gate. Class I and Class II posts recruited by HPSC follow their own examination process and do not use CET.
Is any Haryana recruitment open right now?
We did not find a major application window open as of 7 October 2026. The large 2026 cycles closed earlier in the year and the current phase is results and next stages. Check hssc.gov.in and hpsc.gov.in directly.
What is the difference between HSSC and HPSC?
HSSC recruits Group C and Group D staff including police constables. HPSC recruits Class I and Class II officers — civil services, DSP, Excise and Taxation Officer, Assistant Engineer, PGT and specialist posts.
How much of the CET is Haryana-specific?
Roughly a quarter of the weight covers Haryana history, current affairs, literature, geography, environment and culture. It is the most learnable section and the one that separates candidates.
Can I apply without One Time Registration?
No. OTR is required before CET registration and before any HSSC advertisement. Complete it ahead of time.
