BPSC TRE 4.0 — 32,388 Teacher Posts, and a Notification That Was Replaced
The Bihar Public Service Commission is recruiting 32,388 school teachers under the Teacher Recruitment Examination 4.0. Applications opened on 25 September and close on 26 October 2026.
This is the largest single recruitment currently open anywhere in India — larger than railway Group D, larger than SSC CGL.
Check which notification you are reading. BPSC issued Advertisement No. 14/2026 on 18 August, then replaced it with Advertisement No. 15/2026 on 22 September, which cancels the earlier one. The vacancy count is the same, but dates and conditions come from 15/2026. Anyone working from the August notification, or from an article written before 22 September, has outdated information.

Note the fee deadline. Unusually, it falls a day before the form deadline rather than a day after. Most central recruitments do the opposite, so the habit of leaving payment until last will cost you this one.
Posts and levels
| Level | Classes | Common designation |
|---|---|---|
| Primary | 1 to 5 | PRT |
| Middle | 6 to 8 | Middle school teacher |
| Secondary | 9 to 10 | TGT |
| Higher Secondary | 11 to 12 | PGT |
Vacancies are advertised subject by subject and district by district. The headline figure of 32,388 spans four levels and many subjects, so the number that actually decides your competition is the count for your level, your subject and your district.
Eligibility
Education
- Primary — Class 12 with at least 50 per cent marks plus a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, as specified in the notification.
- Middle, Secondary and Higher Secondary — graduation or post-graduation in the relevant subject with the prescribed teacher training qualification.
The CTET and STET condition, and the exception
A valid CTET or STET certificate is required. BPSC has, however, allowed candidates who hold the educational qualification and teacher training but have not yet cleared STET to apply — provided they clear STET 2026 before the Preliminary Test for the Secondary level, and submit a self-declaration form with a photocopy of their application.
That is an unusual concession and it is easy to misread. It is conditional, it requires the declaration to be filed correctly at application stage, and failing STET later means losing the post. If you are applying on this basis, read the clause in the notification itself rather than relying on any summary.
Age
The maximum age is 42 years as on 1 August 2026. The minimum varies by level, generally between 18 and 21. Relaxations apply under Bihar government rules against a valid certificate held on the cut-off date.
Transgender reservation
BPSC has published a district-wise and subject-wise horizontal reservation list for transgender candidates across all four levels, following the Patna High Court's directive in the Veera Yadav case, allocated on the roster point methodology. Eligible candidates should check the specific districts and subjects identified in the notification.
Selection process
- Objective multiple-choice written examination.
- Document verification for shortlisted candidates.
The exam date has not been confirmed. Some reports indicate December 2026; BPSC has stated it will be announced separately. Treat December as an expectation rather than a date to plan travel around.
How to apply
- Register on the BPSC OTR portal with a valid email address and mobile number. Applications are accepted online only — no offline route exists.
- Open the TRE 4.0 link under Advertisement 15/2026.
- Enter personal, academic and teaching qualification details exactly as on your certificates.
- Upload documents, photograph and signature to the prescribed specifications.
- Pay the fee by 25 October, which is a day before the form deadline.
- Submit and download the confirmation page.
See our document checklist before you start. Certificate format errors cause more rejections in state recruitment than eligibility does.

Source. Compiled from BPSC Advertisement No. 15/2026 dated 22 September 2026, cross-checked across several independent reports on 28 September 2026. The vacancy total of 32,388, the advertisement replacement, the 25 September opening and the ₹100 fee are consistent across sources.
Where sources disagree: the form deadline is now reported three ways — 21, 25 and 26 October — and the exam date as December 2026 or unannounced. Five days separate the earliest and latest deadline. Verify on the BPSC portal before planning around any of them.
