SSC CHSL 2026 — 2,536 LDC, JSA and DEO Posts, Applications Now Closed

The Staff Selection Commission is recruiting 2,536 Group C staff through the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026. Anyone who has passed Class 12 and is aged 18 to 27 on 1 August 2026 can apply. The fee is ₹100 and is waived for women and for SC, ST, PwBD and eligible ex-servicemen candidates.

The form closes on 7 October 2026 at 11:00 PM, but the fee can be paid until 8 October. Those are two different deadlines and missing the second one invalidates the application just as surely as missing the first.

CategoryFee
General, OBC and EWS₹100
SC and STNo fee
Persons with benchmark disabilityNo fee
All women candidatesNo fee
Eligible ex-servicemenNo fee

Payment is online only. An application whose fee has not been successfully received is treated as incomplete, and the commission does not notify you of this — you have to check your own application status.

Age limit

Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years as on 1 August 2026. As always with SSC, this reference date is not the date you apply, and it is the line candidates most often misread. Someone who turns 28 in September 2026 remains eligible; someone who turned 28 in July 2026 does not.

CategoryRelaxation
OBC (non-creamy layer)3 years
SC and ST5 years
PwBD (unreserved)10 years
PwBD (OBC)13 years
PwBD (SC/ST)15 years

Relaxation depends on holding a valid certificate in the format the commission prescribes, on the cut-off date. A certificate issued later, or in a state format where the central format was required, is treated as no certificate at all.

Posts and vacancies

The commission has announced 2,536 tentative vacancies across four Group C roles. The post-wise and category-wise split has not been published yet — SSC usually releases it closer to the exam, and the total commonly moves before the final merit list.

PostPay level
Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)Level 2
Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)Level 2
Data Entry Operator (DEO)Level 4
Data Entry Operator Grade 'A'Level 4

For context on how competitive this is: roughly 30.69 lakh candidates applied for SSC CHSL in 2025. Against 2,536 seats, that is the number worth keeping in mind when planning preparation.

Pay levels

PostPay levelEntry basic pay
LDC and JSALevel 2₹19,900
DEO and DEO Grade 'A'Level 4₹25,500

These are basic pay figures under the 7th Pay Commission matrix, not take-home pay. Actual monthly credit depends on dearness allowance, on house rent allowance for the city you are posted in, and on NPS and CGHS deductions. The gap between an X-city and a Z-city posting at the same level is substantial, because HRA falls from 27 per cent of basic pay to 9 per cent.

Eligibility

Education. A pass in Class 12 or equivalent from a recognised board. The qualification must be complete on or before the application closing date — candidates still awaiting results should check this carefully rather than assuming the usual final-year allowance applies.

Typing and data entry requirements. DEO posts carry a data entry speed requirement tested at the skill test stage. LDC and JSA posts carry a typing test. Both are qualifying in nature, meaning they do not add to your merit score, but failing them removes you from selection entirely.

Nationality. Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 intending permanent settlement.

Selection process

  1. Tier-1 — computer based test, objective, multiple choice.
  2. Tier-2 — computer based test, also objective.
  3. Skill test or typing test — qualifying only, but disqualifying if failed.
  4. Document verification, followed by medical examination.

How to apply

  1. Complete One-Time Registration on the SSC portal at ssc.gov.in if you have not already. Candidates registered on the older SSC site must register again on the current portal.
  2. Log in and open the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026 link.
  3. Enter details exactly as they appear on your Class 10 certificate. Aadhaar-based authentication is offered but is optional.
  4. Choose all three exam centre preferences within a single SSC region. Mixing regions is a common error and the form will not behave as you expect.
  5. Pay the fee if applicable, then download and save the submitted application PDF.

Questions

What is the last date for SSC CHSL 2026?

7 October 2026 at 11:00 PM for the form. Fee payment stays open until 8 October at 11:00 PM, and the correction window runs from 14 to 16 October.

How many vacancies are there?

2,536 tentative vacancies. The post-wise and category-wise breakdown has not been released yet, and SSC typically revises the total before the final result.

Can I apply if my Class 12 result is still awaited?

The qualification must be complete on or before the application closing date. If your result has not been declared by 7 October 2026, check the official notification wording carefully before applying.

Is the typing test counted in the merit list?

No. The skill test and typing test are qualifying only. They add nothing to your score, but failing one removes you from selection.

Do women candidates pay the fee?

No. All women candidates are exempt, as are SC, ST, PwBD and eligible ex-servicemen candidates.

Source. Prepared from SSC notification F. No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1 dated 7 September 2026. Figures on this page were cross-checked across multiple independent reports on 26 September 2026 and were in agreement.

Where sources disagree: the age band is reported as both 18 to 27 and 18 to 25. We use 18 to 27, which matches the commission's own notification wording, but confirm it in the PDF before relying on it — a two-year difference decides eligibility outright.

Still pending from the commission: post-wise and category-wise vacancy split, Tier-1 and Tier-2 exam dates. This page will be updated when they are published.
