UPESSC Assistant Professor 2026 — 1,936 College Posts, Registration Closed

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission is recruiting 1,936 Assistant Professor posts in government-aided degree colleges and women's colleges, under Advertisement No. 04/2026.

Registration closed on 7 October 2026. Two things are still live: fee payment and the correction window both run until 11 October 2026. A registered form with an unpaid fee is not a valid application, so anyone who filled the form but did not pay has until the 11th to finish.

The examination is on 19 and 20 November, and the posts sit at Pay Level 10 — ₹57,700 to ₹1,82,400.

Posts are advertised subject by subject across both categories.

Eligibility

  • A master's degree in the relevant subject with at least 55% marks.
  • NET, SET, SLET or a Ph.D as applicable under the prevailing regulations.

The 55% threshold is a hard floor, not a preference. Relaxation applies to reserved categories as specified in the notification, against a valid certificate.

Pay Level 10 is worth understanding. At ₹57,700 entry basic, this sits above an SSC CGL Assistant Audit Officer post at Level 8, and well above PGT at Level 8 territory. For a candidate holding a master's with NET, a college assistant professorship is among the better-paid state routes available. See what that converts to with the salary calculator.

Selection

An objective OMR-based examination on 19 and 20 November 2026, subject-wise, followed by document verification and the further stages the notification prescribes.

One piece of context candidates should know: a previous UPESSC assistant professor examination was cancelled following a paper leak, with arrests made and the declared result annulled. The commission has since restructured its examination calendar. This is not a reason to avoid the recruitment, but it is a reason to follow announcements on the official portal rather than relying on forwarded updates, because schedules in this stream have moved before.

Source. Compiled from UPESSC Advertisement No. 04/2026, cross-checked on 7 October 2026. The 1,936 total, the 1,564 and 372 split, the 8 September to 7 October window, the 11 October correction date, the 19–20 November exam and Pay Level 10 are consistent across sources.

Where sources disagree: the fee payment deadline is given as both 7 and 11 October. We use 7 October, the more widely reported figure and the safer assumption.
