Supreme Court Junior Court Assistant 2026 — 250 Posts at Pay Level 6

The Supreme Court of India is recruiting 250 Junior Court Assistant posts. Applications opened on 7 October 2026 and close on 28 October 2026 at 11:55 PM.

The post sits at Pay Level 6 with a basic pay of ₹35,400 plus allowances, in New Delhi. Eligibility is a bachelor's degree in any discipline, knowledge of computer operation, and English typing at 35 words per minute.

The typing requirement is not a formality. It is a separate eliminating stage in a four-part selection process, and it is where most otherwise-qualified graduates fall out.

This is a court job, not a clerical one in the ordinary sense. Junior Court Assistants work inside the registry of India's apex court, handling case files, cause lists and court records. The pay level is the same as a Railway Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, but the working environment, the Delhi posting and the institutional prestige are what draw the field.

Eligibility

Three conditions have to be met together, and the third is the one that decides most outcomes:

QualificationBachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised Indian university
Computer knowledgeKnowledge of computer operation
Typing speed35 words per minute in English
Age limit18 to 30 years as on 1 September 2026

Note the age cutoff date. It is 1 September 2026, not 1 January — an unusual reference date, and one that quietly shifts eligibility for anyone whose birthday falls between September and January. Age relaxation applies to SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, persons with disabilities and ex-servicemen as per government rules. Our government job age calculator will check a date of birth against that specific cutoff.

Application fee

CategoryFee
General / Unreserved₹1,500
SC / ST / OBC-NCL / Ex-servicemen / PH₹750

At ₹1,500 for general candidates this is among the steeper application fees in central recruitment, and unlike railway recruitment there is no refund for appearing in the exam. Treat it as a sunk cost and decide accordingly.

Selection process

Four stages, each eliminating:

StageWhat it tests
1. Objective type testWritten screening
2. Typing testEnglish typing at 35 wpm
3. Descriptive written testWritten English, composition
4. InterviewFinal assessment

The descriptive paper is what makes this recruitment different. Most clerical recruitment at this level stops at an objective test and a skill test. Here a descriptive written paper sits between the typing test and the interview, which means written English — grammar, structure, the ability to compose a passage cleanly — carries real weight. Candidates who prepare for this the way they would for SSC CHSL, which is almost entirely objective, tend to be caught out.

The typing test is the real filter

Thirty-five words per minute in English sounds modest. In practice, under exam conditions, on an unfamiliar keyboard, with accuracy penalties applied, it eliminates a large share of graduates who have never formally practised typing. The speed has to be sustained across the full passage, not hit in a burst.

You have eleven days before applications close and considerably longer before the test itself. That is enough time to build the speed if you start now. Our typing speed test measures you against exactly this standard and shows accuracy alongside raw speed, which is the figure that actually matters once errors are deducted.

How to apply

  • Apply through the official Supreme Court website at sci.gov.in. There is no third-party portal for this recruitment.
  • Keep your degree certificate, category certificate and photograph ready in the specified formats before you begin.
  • Pay the fee in the same session. An unpaid application is not a submitted application.
  • Do not leave it to 28 October. The portal for a 250-post central recruitment handles its heaviest load on the final day.

Our application checklist covers the document requirements in detail.

How it compares

If you are a graduate weighing this against the other central recruitments currently open, the trade-off is between scale and odds:

RecruitmentPostsPay levelLast date
Supreme Court JCA250628 Oct 2026
NICL Administrative Officer321Scale I officer28 Oct 2026
RRB NTPC Graduate3,5485 and 66 Nov 2026

At 250 posts nationally this is a tight recruitment. The typing and descriptive stages narrow the real competition considerably, though — far fewer candidates clear those than clear an objective paper alone, which is worth weighing before you decide the ratio is hopeless.
